The future might not have a face

This video was my lightbulb moment, at Thrilling Wonder Stories a couple of years ago. Why are we so thrilled with making machines in our own image, robots that walk, computers that recognise faces? Often, recognising gait patterns or the veins in a hand are so much more computationally efficient than face recognition. Are we unfairly limiting the future with our inability to get over ourselves, or are the consequences of technology that isn’t constrained by our particular human paradigms just too scary to think about right now?
